This ingenious model is easily assembled from over 50 parts. The heart and drive of the whole thing is the sun – it contains the mechanism that causes the planets to orbit at four speeds and in eight different orbits.
The best thing about it: it doesn't even need batteries. The gear mechanism in the sun is a wind-up motor – simply wind it up and all the planets from Mercury to Neptune will orbit the yellow centre at different speeds.
The solar system can be attached to various surfaces using a suction cup.
