Pre-cut cardboard kit for a projection sundial that displays solar time (true local time), standard time (CET, zone time) or summer time to the nearest 5 minutes.
The sun is the simplest and most natural timekeeper we know. Sundials are therefore the oldest timepieces known to humankind. The time is read from the length or direction of the shadow. The shadow-caster (gnomon) can take many different forms: a rod, a thread, a straight edge, a huge obelisk or simply the figure of a person reading the time from their own shadow.
The digital sundial displays solar time as well as standard time (CET) and even summer time (CEST). The numerals are projected by the sun onto a display panel. And so, with a touch of humour, one might say that this solar chronometer – the very epitome of analogue timekeeping – has entered the digital age. With a reading accuracy of 5 minutes, it is one of the most accurate sundials in the world. Universally adjustable for any location between Oslo and Cairo.
