Columbus DUO Alba Large Globe - stylish, modern and harmonious
The elegant DUO Alba map, with its light colours, gets the attention it deserves with this stand.
The hand-laminated globe with a diameter of 51 cm is supported by a base made of precious wood. The solid base made of charred oak, finished with silver-grey lime, gives the globe the right height. The metal meridian is made of stainless steel and is graduated on one side (rotatable/swivelling). The floor globe made of hand-blown crystal glass also looks beautiful when illuminated.
Charring is one of the oldest craft techniques known to mankind. The solid oak is charred on the surface by experienced carpenters using traditional methods and then cleaned with a stainless steel brush. In the next step, they refine the surface with silver-grey lime to achieve a unique look.

The DUO ALBA map image shines with its combination of modern style and politically up-to-date map image. This new design appears unlit in various shades of grey; when lit, the sea changes to a pleasant shade of blue. The map image contains an unrivalled wealth of up-to-date information. When unlit, you see the globe politically with ocean relief. When lit, the physical image becomes visible. The map image is laminated by hand in the traditional manner.

OID - optical image decoding: what's behind this technology?
This globe offers the option to read a code using the sensor on the tip of the optional Columbus Audio/Video-Pen OID . This code is linked to various audio or video files. When tapped on the globe, the pen detects the code and plays the appropriate file via the built-in speaker (or via the headphone output).
For example, by selecting the category Country Information, you will find out the size of the country, its population, its population growth, the name of its capital city and much more besides - all depending on where on the globe you tap the pen.
Under Interesting Facts you will find fascinating, insightful and extremely comprehensive facts and figures about the country. All countries are presented in detail.
The National Anthems category, which plays the song associated with the individual countries, is especially impressive. You can test your knowledge in a fun way with the fourth category - the Quiz.
