More about the series Royal...
The Professional Line – prestigious, sophisticated and of lasting value.
A tribute to Kepler and Copernicus, a declaration of love for aesthetic design and good taste.
The COLUMBUS globes in the Professional Line are not only masterpieces of precise cartography, but also of creative craftsmanship - a successful collaboration between specialists in the fields of cartography, glass art and design. The glassblowers play a special role here: the crystal glass globes that characterise all models in this line are mouth-blown and, with diameters of 34 cm, 40 cm and an impressive 51 cm, achieve a map scale that is otherwise only found in large atlases.
They thus meet the highest standards in terms of form and function.
This globe is the result of a successful collaboration between designers, cartographers and glass-blowers. The map is adjusted manually on a blown crystal sphere that is seamless and highly luminous.
Columbus is the only manufacturer in the world to produce those world-famous crystal globes.
The Royal map.
The Royal map is exceptionally detailed. It combines the antique style with up-to-date geopolitical information.
Columbus doesn't just print their globes; they strive to create an incredibly deep, flawless shine. It all starts in their state-of-the-art 'clean printing room', where their craftsmen work just with superior acrylic sheets. Bringing in all kind of papers is strictly forbidden, because it would bring in fine paper dust particles which could later be attracted in the printing process. Printing up to 24 successive layers of colors, there's a curing process between each layer, along with an inspection and careful cleaning. Once the printing is complete, a high gloss clear coat layer is applied over the entire map, then it is sent back for inspection to our cartographic department.
Unmistakable COLUMBUS cartography: Splendour of Elegance.
