The MOVA globe comes to life every day - all by itself. This is due to the energy of the room light on the one hand and the influence of the Earth's magnetic field on the other. MOVA Globe is balanced by gravitational forces and rotates smoothly at a constant speed. This creates a pleasant, calm atmosphere in any room.
The first MOVA Globes, with a diameter of approx. 15.5 cm, were sold in the USA and Japan back in 2006. At that time, they were still sold for a hefty price of USD 500 each. Despite the rather high price, over 6,000 of these magically floating globes have already been sold. Art galleries and museums in particular have sold the MOVA Globe to people who could afford and wanted this little luxury. Today, the owners include Michael Dell, Bill Clinton and many Hollywood film stars.
However, in order to give other interested parties the opportunity to afford a MOVA Globe, it was decided to design an even more efficient but smaller model with a diameter of 11.5 cm.
How it works:
The MOVA Globe is particularly impressive due to its completely silent rotation, which occurs without any obvious energy input. The MOVA globe is powered solely by light (daylight or artificial light) and the effect of the Earth's magnetic field.
The rotation of the globe is generated on one side by a magnetic drive in the inner shell and on the other side by the energy of the light, which acts directly on the highly sensitive solar cells inside the globe.
The magnetic drive is based on the energy of the Earth's magnetic field. The Earth's magnetic field can penetrate the interior of the globe, just like a compass. As with a compass needle, the rotation mechanism inside the globe is driven by the Earth's magnetic field.
MOVA Globe consists of a transparent outer shell and a globe floating inside it. The thin gap between the outer acrylic shell and the inner globe is filled with a special transparent liquid. The globe has the same average density as the liquid surrounding it. This means that there is no contact between the inner globe and the outer shell at any time. The inner globe can therefore rotate with extremely low friction beneath the acrylic shell.
The optical properties of the liquid make the graphics on the globe appear to be on the outer surface of the MOVA globe.
This creates the impression that the globe is rotating directly above the base – or, if you prefer, on your hand.
The result is a fascinating optical illusion – a mystical experience.
MOVA – beginnings and future:
It all began in a small basement in sunny California, where physicist and inventor Bill French had already devoted his entire life to solar energy, magnetism and their magic.
In the near future, MOVA products will be available in various sizes and shapes. Plans include cylinder shapes and vases, as well as a wide range of attractive graphic designs. The future of MOVA products will therefore extend far beyond the globes.
MOVA globes will enable completely new interior designs – environmentally friendly, admirable and magical products full of mysticism that move all by themselves.
