More about the series Royal...
The Royal map.
The Royal map is exceptionally detailed. It combines the antique style with up-to-date geopolitical information.
Columbus doesn't just print their globes; they strive to create an incredibly deep, flawless shine. It all starts in their state-of-the-art 'clean printing room', where their craftsmen work just with superior acrylic sheets. Bringing in all kind of papers is strictly forbidden, because it would bring in fine paper dust particles which could later be attracted in the printing process. Printing up to 24 successive layers of colors, there's a curing process between each layer, along with an inspection and careful cleaning. Once the printing is complete, a high gloss clear coat layer is applied over the entire map, then it is sent back for inspection to our cartographic department.
Unmistakable COLUMBUS cartography: Splendour of Elegance.
Alexander von Humboldt once said that the most dangerous worldview is that of those who believe that nothing is dangerous. With COLUMBUS mini globes, the world fits effortlessly in your hand – yet their maps provide a wealth of cartographic information. Elaborately printed using a 120-line fine screen process, even the smallest lettering is crystal clear and sharp. Hand-laminated map segments guarantee maximum precision in the overall presentation. The result: a world view to take with you.
The invention of lithography in the 19th century revolutionised map production. The schematic nature of woodcuts and copperplate engravings gave way to the coloured appearance of drawn maps – yet still in large print runs. The Royal Globe combines the nostalgic feel of old map styles with up-to-date data. Its warm map image meets the political world view of our time.
The steadfast detail: a globe needs a firm hold so that it can unfold its full effect. The mini globe rests securely on a matt stainless steel base and rotates on a stainless steel meridian.
